Lisa DeWitt is the new Grade 1-8 teacher. Mrs. DeWitt has taught for 9 years in Seventh-Day Adventist schools and home-schooled her children for 5 years. She has a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Andrews University. She currently lives in Laurel, Maryland, with her husband, Steve, who is also a teacher. They have three elementary-aged boys. Mrs. DeWitt’s hobbies include reading, scrapbooking, and crocheting.
School Hours
Monday through Thursday school starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. and is dismissed at 3:15 p.m. On Fridays school starts at 8:00 a.m. and is dismissed at 12:15 p.m.
Uniforms & Dress Code
The dress code of Martin Barr Adventist School exists to enhance the appearance of the student body and promote self-esteem. Uniform components may be purchased from any retailer as long as they conform to the Uniform Dress Code. Untidy, dirty or torn uniforms are not to be worn at school. No visible jewelry is to be worn during school hours. Only clear nail polish is permitted.
Required Uniform for Boys: Navy or khaki trousers, navy or khaki shorts, white, dark blue, light blue, or maroon colored color polo shirt (short or long-sleeved)
Required Uniform for Girls: Navy or khaki trousers, navy or khaki shorts, skorts or skirts,, plaid, navy or khaki one-piece jumper, white, dark blue, light blue, or maroon colored polo shirts (short or long-sleeved), navy blouse (short or long-sleeved)
Optional Clothing: Sweaters (any color), lightweight nylon jackets (navy)
Lunches & Snacks
Students will need to bring a bag lunch each day except on Fridays. On Thursdays, students have the option of bringing lunch or buying pizza. The pizza will be ordered from Papa John's. The cost is $1.25 per slice. Payment is made on Thursday morning; exact change is requested.
Parents are required to send in everything that the child will need to eat his/her lunch, (i.e. napkin, spoon, fork, straw, cup, paper plate). A microwave is available for students to heat their food, if necessary.
If younger students require a mid-morning snack, parents may include a healthy snack in their lunch. Students will be allowed to eat the snack at break time. Parents need to make sure the child knows what he/she is to eat for snack and what is to be left for lunch.
Health Policy
A child with a fever or who shows symptoms of illness is to be kept home until fully recovered. The school is to be notified in the case of communicable disease.
Inclement Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather, Martin Barr Adventist School follows Anne Arundel County Public School system policy, with two exceptions. If the Anne Arundel County Public Schools are closed due to unusually high temperatures, we will continue to hold classes. Our school has air conditioning. If Anne Arundel County Public Schools open two hours late on a Friday, we will not have school. Please listen to local radio and television stations for school delays and cancellations.

From Annapolis/Severna Park/Arnold: Take Rt. 50 West and exit onto Rt. 424/Davidsonville Rd. (turn right onto Rt. 424.) Turn right onto Bell Branch Rd. Follow Bell Branch Rd. until you see a sign for Bell Branch Seventh-Day Adventist Church, make a right.
From Bowie/Mitchellville: Take Rt. 50 East and exit onto Rt. 424 /Davidsonville Rd. (turn left onto Rt. 424.) Turn right onto Bell Branch Rd. Follow Bell Branch Rd. until you see a sign for Bell Branch Seventh-Day Adventist Church, make a right.
From Crofton/Gambrills: Take Rt. 3 to Rt. 424 /Davidsonville Rd. Turn left onto Bell Branch Rd. Follow Bell Branch Rd. until you see a sign for Bell Branch Seventh-Day Adventist Church, make a right.
