Memory Verses

Grades 2-4:
“When someone sins, he earns what sin pays—death.  But God gives us a free gift—life forever in Christ Jesus our Lord,” Romans
6:23

.

Grades 5-6:  “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me.  Remain in my love.  When you obey me, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father and remain in his love.  I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy.  Yes, your joy will overflow!” John 15:9-11.

A Note from Mrs. DeWitt

It was great to see everybody at Back-to-School Night.  We are settling into our routine with kickball, Pizza Day, and storytime, as well as homework, quizzes and tests!

The students officially began their mini-economy jobs this week and the classroom is looking great.  The trash is being taken out regularly, boards cleaned daily, and computers turned off nightly.

We got a taste of cooler fall weather and I’m hoping for more next week!

Staff Development – Early Dismissal

School will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, for Staff Development.  Please plan to pick up your children promptly.

Caught in the Act!

Andrew did a great job quizzing Jason on his spelling words.  Thanks, Andrew!

Labor Day

School will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 6, 2010.

School Photos

Ian Furlong, from Wonsaponatime Studios, will be here at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14, to take school photos.  Students should come in uniform for their individual and group school pictures, but may bring a change of clothes if they’d like more formal or more casual shots taken as well.

Ian is also very accommodating of those who would like to have sibling photos taken.  Pets are also welcome, as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult.

Bean Collection

Thank you to those who have already brought in their 5 lbs. of dry beans!  If you haven’t done so yet, please remember to send them in before September 17.

RenWeb

Mrs. DeWitt has been working to get our RenWeb system up and running.  Please log on to

www.renweb.com and try your account ASAP.  Then let Mrs. DeWitt know if you have been unable to log on successfully.  Thank you!

Yard Sale

Our yard sale is scheduled for Sunday, September 26, 2010 , outside the fire station (permission pending).  Parents are needed to staff tables and price items, transport items from the shed to the sale site, and help clean up afterward.  Please add this event to your calendar.

Lunches

Please make sure you send your child with all the utensils they will need for their lunch—napkins, flatware, plates, bowls, etc.  The school provides these items only on pizza day.

If you send microwaveable items in your child’s lunch, please be sure they can be heated in one minute or less.

Textbooks

All textbooks which are taken home should be returned to school the next day, even if the homework assignment is not completed.  Students will need their books for class.

News Flash

The News Flash is sent home on Friday each week.  This gives parents the weekend to familiarize themselves with upcoming events for the following week; and it also allows us to place a copy of our newsletter in the Bell Branch and Annapolis church bulletins.

Since there are so many extra items in this week’s News Flash, we’ve attached a Parent’s Quiz.  Please send it back to school with your child on Monday.

Pizza Day

Every Thursday (unless we’re on a field trip), we will place an order for Papa John’s pizza.  The cost per slice is $1.25 and we ask that you send exact change.  Money should be sent in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and the number of slices for which you are paying, and must be turned in when your child arrives in the morning.  No IOUs will be accepted.

No other food will be provided on Pizza Day, so you will still need to send the fruit, drink, dessert or snack items you’d like your child to have for lunch.

Martin Barr School Shirts

A Martin Barr School shirt is the required uniform for all field trips, so each child will need to own at least one embroidered shirt.  We will be placing an order for Martin Barr shirts on Tuesday, August 31.  An order blank is attached.  Please complete and return it, along with your check made payable to MartinBarrSchool, no later than that Tuesday morning.

Items to Save

Martin Barr collects Box Tops, Campbell’s Labels for Education and My Coke Rewards bottle caps or codes, as well as toner and paper for recycling.  Please remember to bring these items in at the end of each month.
